The St Ives Liberal Democrats have slammed the local Conservative MP for voting to scrap bursaries for post-graduate nurses. This followed an earlier scrappage of bursaries for undergraduates.
Local Tory MP voted to scrap the scheme having only days earlier proclaimed himself as a ‘nursing champion’.
A local Lib Dem spokesperson said: “Making it harder for more people to become nurses is clearly not the actions of a nursing champion. We need more nurses than ever. Our Tory MP evidently has some gall if he thinks he can claim to be standing up for nurses.”
